A parole packet is not required to receive a favorable parole vote, and no packet can guarantee parole. Its purpose is to help organize and present relevant information in a clear, professional, and meaningful way.

When possible, parole preparation should begin months before the anticipated review period. Starting early provides time to gather records, obtain meaningful support letters, verify housing and employment plans, develop a thoughtful release plan, and organize relevant documentation before the case is reviewed.

Every case is different, so the appropriate preparation timeline may depend on the individual’s eligibility date, review status, and circumstances.

A parole presentation may include:

• Support letters from family members, mentors, employers, and community supporters

• Program completion certificates and rehabilitation records

• Educational achievements and vocational training documentation

• Personal statements addressing accountability, remorse, rehabilitation, and personal growth

• Verified housing and reentry plans

• Employment plans, job opportunities, or letters from prospective employers

• Documentation of community resources, treatment, counseling, or other available support

• Relevant mitigation or context regarding the individual’s history and circumstances

• Other documentation that helps provide a clear and complete picture of the individual’s progress and plans for release

Each case is different. The goal is not simply to submit a large volume of documents, but to organize relevant information in a way that is clear, concise, and useful to the parole panel.

When attorney representation is included as part of a service, such as the Parole Platinum Package, legal representation is provided by a licensed attorney. Favor Legal provides case preparation, paralegal support, document preparation, research, organization, and administrative coordination under the attorney’s direction and supervision.

The Parole Platinum Package combines comprehensive case preparation by Favor Legal with direct attorney-led advocacy by Attorney Zane Weeks.

Favor Legal works under Mr. Weeks’s direction and supervision to assist with records gathering, mitigation development, parole presentation preparation, case organization, and administrative coordination. Mr. Weeks personally reviews the case and provides the legal representation associated with the package.

When an interview with the parole panel is requested and granted, Mr. Weeks presents the client’s case to the parole panel’s lead voter. If the Board schedules an in-person appearance, Mr. Weeks travels to the appropriate Board office to advocate for the client directly.

If parole is denied during the initial review, the Platinum Package also includes attorney representation at the client’s next parole review without an additional attorney fee, subject to the terms of the representation agreement.

Yes. Family members and other supporters can play an important role in parole preparation. They may provide information regarding housing, employment, transportation, treatment resources, financial assistance, community support, and other resources available to the individual after release.

Favor Legal frequently works with families and support networks to gather and organize this information so that the parole panel can clearly understand the support and reentry resources available to the individual.

No parole packet, attorney, advocate, or other service can guarantee a favorable parole decision. The parole board, panel, or reviewing authority in the applicable jurisdiction considers the individual’s case file and other relevant information when making its decision..

A professionally prepared parole presentation can help ensure that relevant information concerning rehabilitation, accountability, support, and release planning is organized and available for consideration, but the ultimate decision belongs to the parole panel.

If parole is denied, the Board’s decision will identify the applicable disposition, which may include a future parole review date. The period of time before the next review is commonly referred to as a set-off period.

The length of the set-off can vary depending on the individual’s offense, sentence, case circumstances, and the Board’s decision. During that time, the individual can continue rehabilitation efforts, complete additional programs, address concerns identified during the previous review, strengthen the release plan, and develop additional documentation for future consideration.
